WOW!  God is really working in and through us at EBC!

What’s been happening at EBC?

We had a great Friend Day on November 16th!  We were blessed to have 117 in attendance, with about 40 more people than usual—that’s great!  Many of those friends worshipped with us for the first time, while others were returning guests!  I thank God for all those at EBC, who invited their friends, made new friends, and for those who were blessed to bring their friends on Friend Day! It was great to see our church family engaged in our mission! Let’s keep friending others and keep connecting them to Jesus and the church! Sunday is coming!

What’s happening next at EBC?

Celebrate the Holiday Season at EBC!  The holiday season can bring unwanted stress and over the top hustle and bustle, making it hard to celebrate the real reason for the season.  At EBC we want to stay focused on Jesus our Savior and all He has done for us.  We have much to be thankful for and celebrate.  So join me for each Sunday school hour (10 a.m.) and service (11 a.m. & 6 p.m.) and Wednesday night ministry (7 p.m.) and let’s celebrate the holiday seasons together.

Praise and Pie Fellowship—November 23rd! We will be having our Thanksgiving praise service this Sunday, November 23rd at 6 p.m. Following the service we will also have a pie fellowship. Come out and be a part as we praise our great God and enjoy some great pie! There will be no mid-week service on Wednesday, November 26th.

Baskets of Blessing—Now through November 23rd! We are putting Thanksgiving baskets together filled with non-perishable food items so we can be a blessing to other families! Just bring in your nonperishable items and place them on the table marked “Baskets of Blessing”, in the fellowship hall.

2014 Stewardship Sundays Begin October 5th

God richly blessed our Stewardship Sundays last year and I’m real excited about this year! Our Stewardship Sundays will be during the entire month of October: the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th. Our theme will be “Giving My Best!” Each stewardship Sunday we will have a joint Sunday school class at 10 a.m. (teens and adults) and Sunday worship services at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Each time we meet together we will be inspired to give our best to God right here at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

God has been so faithful to us throughout this year! We praise Him for working and look forward with great anticipation for what he will do during our fall season at EBC! The good news is that you can participate and help make it the best fall season ever. Join me in taking steps to a closer devotion to Jesus and commitment as a church family member here at EBC. Let’s be faithful to pray, attend the services, serve, tithe and give, love one another, and do our part to help our church grow together!

EBC News Update!

Are you ready for a new season?  We are getting close to entering the summer season and I know you are ready for a break.  Right?  All the hustle and bustle of the school year, and the relentless work schedule, and the changes in weather from moderate to hot, can bring us joy and challenge as well!

With all that new seasons bring, let’s praise God for what He has done and get involved with what will be happening next here at EBC!

We had a great Sunday!

God blessed our Sunday morning and evening services!  The music was a blessing and the message sure stirred our hearts to be blessed from Psalm 1!  So, will your life be blessed?

The graduation service was a blessing, too.  I believe they are ready to follow Jesus wherever He may lead them!  The fellowship, short message, and food was a hit.  Thank you to all the ladies who helped!

Can you help?

During the months of June and July we will be doing some recruiting of workers and teachers for our Children’s Church ministry.  Do you have a love for Jesus and for children?  Why not sign up to teach children’s church on Sunday mornings from 11:15-12:00 noon?  We are putting a monthly teacher’s rotation together now and will be having some brief training to explain all the details and what is expected.  Please contact the church office if you are interested in helping!

What About VBS?

Would you like to help with VBS this summer?  We are planning the details of vacation Bible school and would like your help.  We need a lady or 2 to organize and lead VBS this summer.  If you are interested in organizing and leading VBS or would like to serve in any way please contact the church office or Pastor Mike by June 18th.  We will be having a brief meeting coming up soon for all those who are interested in helping with VBS.

Volleyball Begins—June 10th

Volleyball season begins at 6:30 p.m. on June 10th! Games will be played Tuesdays and Fridays between 7 & 10 p.m. at the city volleyball courts.

Volleyball Kick Off Party—June 11th

We will have a combined service Wednesday night, June 11th at 7 p.m. There will be a short devotional, a pizza dinner, and volleyball. Please bring a drink and a dessert to share!

Keep praying, coming, worshipping, serving, tithing, and loving one another.  God will help us grow together if each one of us consistently does our part!

Have a wonderful week,

Pastor Mike

Exciting Spring Schedule at EBC!

How about the awesome spring weather?  I hope you are having a great spring so far!  God is blessing EBC!  We had a great Sunday this past week.  We started a new sermon series called “Choose Joy” from the book of Philippians!  We saw how we can choose joy no matter our circumstances in chapter one. Don’t miss this Sunday as we see how we can choose joy from Philippians chapter two!

Here is what else is happening soon at EBC:

–        Spring Clean up: Saturday from 8 am – 12 noon

Plan to come and help make our church shine for Jesus—a place to call home.  Feel free to bring any supplies that you think can help us get stuff done.

–        Easter Services:  4/20 at 11 am & 6pm! (No Sunday school)

People are more open to come to church on Easter Sunday than any other time of the year.  So why not take the Easter Challenge!  Are you up for it?  Here is the three-part challenge for you and for me.

First of all pray! Please join me in praying for our Easter service.  Pray that God will prepare your heart and mine and that we will respond!

Secondly, invite and bring a guest.  Just use an invite card from our new sermon series “Choose joy.”  Tell them about our church and let them know they are personally invited.  Think about one person that you could invite and bring to our Easter Sunday service.  Write their name down.  Pray for them and then invite them to come.  Don’t except no for an answer!

Thirdly, give an Easter offering. We will be receiving an Easter offering, given above our tithes and regular giving, to help us finish the Kids zone play ground, and to help make needed enhancements to our sound and media ministry.

There are some exciting things to get involved with here at EBC!  As we get involved and do our part God will help our church family grow together upward, inward, and outward!

Excited about our Spring schedule?  Let me know which events you will be coming to by leaving a comment!

EBC News Update!

EBC revival services this Sunday at 11 am & 6pm!!!

God has been working in our church family and preparing us for our revival services coming up this Sunday!  Are you ready?  Our revival services will be on Sunday, March 23 at 11am and 6pm, and Monday and Tuesday, March 24-25 at 7pm. Our guest speaker will be Evangelist James Croft!

Have you been preparing for revival?

When we experience revival we will be spiritually revitalized.  We will come alive with a greater desire for God. We will be more concerned with pleasing God and being led by the Spirit of God and the Word of God than anything else!

Revival is possible, but it starts with you and it starts with me! Revival is not a service and is not for our community and our country it’s for us right here at EBC!

How can I prepare for revival in my heart and life?

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We need to be spiritually revitalized.  We need to awake out of spiritual sleep, with a greater desire for God, and a greater devotion to God!

I encourage you to get alone with God this week and pray—do some examination and some deep confessing and repenting of sin.  Welcome God to investigate your heart like David did and be ready to respond!

Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: 24And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”

Looking forward to God moving this Sunday,

Pastor Mike

How will you prepare to experience revival?  Let me know by leaving your comment.  I would love to hear from you.

And that’s awesome! Hope to you see you here tomorrow for Friend Day!

Pastor Mike

Out of Sight, but in the Mind!

It’s been said “Out of sight, out of mind!”  How true that is with so many things and even relationships we have.  We had a great Missions Conference last year.  We had a missions emphasis, and had supporting missionaries visit with us, and even connected with some of them via Skype. Awesome—right?  Sure, but what about last week and today?  Are we not just being faithful to give our missions offerings, but also praying for our missionaries as well?

Praying for our missionaries is one of the ways we can grow together outward!  Our desire is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with new families, see them receive Jesus as Savior, follow Him, and join themselves to our church family!  Our missionaries have the same goals in mind so let’s keep them in prayer.

Take a few minutes and click on this link and give it  a read.  It gives some good pointers of how to really pray for our missionaries, keeping them in our minds and hearts even though they may be out of sight!

What has helped you to keep our supporting missionaries in your hearts and minds?

As we near the end of summer it’s great to know God is at work at EBC!  God blessed us with a good crowd on Sunday to include first time guests and returning guests as well!

Sunday Morning

We learned 2 ways to put the ax to anxiety.  First, pray thankfully!  Let’s remember to mix in gratitude in our prayers as we seek God to help us during anxious times.  Secondly, think properly!  Let’s allow the Scriptures and God’s Spirit to help strengthen our minds, helping us to think properly and put the ax to anxiety!

Sunday Evening

On Sunday evening we were challenged to “Grow Inward” by welcoming new Christians and new members into the church family!  It’s the responsibility of each member to take time to show the love of Christ to new folks in the church and help them take their next steps as they follow Christ and continue to worship with us.  We put the message into practice immediately following the service as a new family decided to join the EBC family!  We cheered and applauded their decision and gave them a warm welcome.  God is an awesome God!  Let’s keep it up!

We are taking steps together as we Grow Together as a church family!

Vision Night Flashback!

Growing

On Sunday, March 3rd, at 6:00 p.m. Emmanuel Baptist Church gathered for Vision Night!  It was awesome!  Vision night is one of the most important gatherings of the entire year.  And oh what an inspiring Vision Night gathering we had.

So what really happened on Vision Night?  What was said from God’s Word?  How were we the people of EBC challenged to help see our vision become a reality?  I am glad you asked!  Here is what happened!

What is our vision?

God blessed us with an inspiring vision night gathering on March 3rd!  The atmosphere was great, the crowd was attentive and response, and the vision was compelling and on point.  On this special night I shared our Vision for this year:  Growing together: Upward, Inward, and Outward! Our vision theme verse is found in 2 Peter 3:18, But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

During our gathering I explained how our vision came from God, what the vision is, and I also painted a picture of what our vision looks like in action.  I challenged us all by asking some key questions like, “What is it going to take for us to grow together? What will it take for you and me to step out of our comfort zones and really get engaged in the mission?” To help us get engaged I reminded us of what our God-given purpose, mission, and vision really are! The purpose of our church—the reason why we exist at all is to Glorify God—to seek to exalt Jesus our Savior and please Him in how we live and in what we do.  The mission of our church—what we are to be doing—is to make disciples of Jesus Christ! Our mission is to help people become growing healthy disciples of Christ in our church, community, and beyond.  As a church we are to know Jesus more and make Him known to others.

How can we become a church that glorifies and pleases God in who we are and in all we do?  How can we together become growing healthy disciples and become a disciple making factory? That’s where our vision comes in!  We will become the church God wants us to become by Growing Together!  On vision night I then shared this important truth:  growing upward, inward, and outward are all connected to each other!  We won’t grow upward in our relationship with God unless we open up to God and desire to know Him more.  And we won’t grow inward, building real relationships with other church members and attenders and guests unless we first grow upward.  And we won’t grow outward, reaching new families with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, unless we first grow upward with God and then inward with others within the church body.  They are all connected!

At the end of our gathering I shared some action steps.    In order to change the outcome—our future—we must change our behavior.  That’s what we do. And in order to change what we do we have got to change who we are. And that means experience a change of heart! We have to get God’s help with that!

Let’s decide together to take some action steps toward our vision so we can see our vision become a reality!

What steps are we to take together?

I was excited as I shared our Growing Together Goals!  Our goals are laminated on a half sheet of card stock with a magnet so they can be easily put on our refrigerators for viewing and reminding each day!  Our goals are the mini bite-size action steps we all must take together so that our vision will become reality. These growing together goals are not just for me but for you too.  Not just for some members and attenders but for all!  To discover where you are in your spiritual growth with Christ and your commitment level ask yourself this question as you read over and pray over our goals, “What main area(s) do I need to grow in?”

God truly worked in a great way!  We all have steps to take so we can see our vision of Growing Together: Upward, Inward, and Outward become a reality at EBC!  If you were present at the vision night gathering or have received your copy of our growing together goals, or just love growing in Christ let me know how God has worked in your life and let’s get growing!

What area(s) has God showed you to grow in so we can all grow together?  Keep the conversation and vision alive by leaving your comment.
